Memory Lane

Friends ,
With the permission of school authority, the association could held its governing body meeting at school premises for the first time since our birth in May 2005 last Saturday ( 3rd July 2010 ) . This is a historic event for the association. Earlier we were able to host “Career Fair” a two day event inside the school followed by our first AGM back in 2005. Thanks to the school authority for the delayed allowance and hats off to my seniors who could convince the authority about our sincerity and clear will. Somehow I failed to do that . Anyway better late than never.
Suparnada has mailed my some photos of our school building. It clearly shows the bad state of maintenance. I’m placing those here for your review . The association will decide its further course of action on the ways we could help here . Please place your comment along with this post to build our e-consensus .

  1. I am very much sorry to see the present condition of my school building. We must know why no maintenance of building could be done. I feel that there should be one building fund created by way of collection from students every year. During my tenure in the school as student, Bengal Immunity Co was taking care of the school when the Company was functioning. Presently the financial condition of the company is so bad that the company cannot take care of our school. Present Managing Committee of the school should not continue as silent spectator. They must think of alternative. Managing Committee must be very much friendly with our Alumni Association.

  2. Yes,the school building has serious problems. As we came to know, expansion plan is also facing rough weather. As things stand, those problems are knotty & trying to solve them might take much time, money & socio-political effort. I propose we should proceed step by step & with close collaboration with the school committee.I propose we first look into the hygiene angle- SAFE DRINKING WATER & CLEAN TOILETS.At the same time, talk with the architects & school authorities about what needs to be done & the cost involved to restore the different blocks of the school. But,after the work with water & toilets is done, we should look into the LIBRARY about which, too,we had a talk with the headmaster on the day of the condolence meeting. We need everybody’s opinion & efforts. about my suggestions

  3. It is but natural for all those who have been fortunate enough to have studied in the affluent BNNV to feel shocked at the sight of the school as it stands now.
However, it would not be entirely appropriate to blame the current school authorities for all the ills that dog the school. Even if we gathered enough fund to build everything afresh we won’t be able to do that. As legal constraints are weighed heavily against such actions. I am sure though if we put our heads together we would be able to find out ways to go about it.
So we will have take small incremental steps and contribute to the school’s infrastructure. Feasibility would be the word that would determine actualisation of our dream.
As Sandip says, and rightly so, we could help in upgrading the sanitation. I understand the toilets are already being upgraded. We could provide them with water filters.
But that by itself would not be enough. We will also have to provide for their upkeep.
Any suggestion therefore should also provide for the upgraded portion’s upkeep as well.
But since that is a flow, an immediate move could be doing up the prarthana ghar. Properly done up that could host a lot of intraschool events with aplomb (though it continues to do that as in the past but its condition is very bad.)
However, let all the suggestions flow in and then we could sit down and structure them in a matrix and then decide appropriately on the future course of action.
    Regards
    Suparna Pathak
