Hello friends,
Today is Maha Saptami. On behalf of the governing body of the association I extend our greetings to all. You would be happy to know that the new committee is working full time towards making the association more inclusive and trying to fill up the calendar with events in association with the school. Be it the sports or sit and draw competition or health camp, the footprint of the association is getting more ubiquitous. If things go the way as it is going now you can expect to have our reunion in the school itself. It would again be a first and all praise should go to the efforts of the new committee.
We also have a facebook presence. I would urge everybody to go and check up our facebook site. I would again urge my fellow alumni to take a a greater intereset in the association and also be part of our ‘net’ presence. You never who you might meet. This network of old boys helps in many ways. The traffic on the site seems to have dried up. I hope the same is not true of our attachment to our alma mater. The new committee under Abhijit as the Secretary has taken charge and is continuing with the good work. The members’ list is being updated. We have had an electronic record. But with the rules demanding a physical record, they are now busy with the herculean task of updating the physical record.
Our resources have also reached an unmanageable low. On behalf of the committee and at the behest of the secretary I am requesting you to please contribute to the fund. You can do so either by cash, cheque or NEFT. The bank details are available on this site. Check it out. You can also get in touch with the secretary. Friends, it is due to efforts such as have been put in by Debansu that the alumni association has survived all odds to take up its current shape. We are now at the crossroads. Now that we have won the heart of the school time has come for us to implement what we had set out to do. As my term as Secretary of the association comes to an end, I can say without any qualm that I feel privileged to have had the honour of working with such a dedicated and intelligent team. I am proud of my alma mater. Thank you all. See you on the 13th at Jamuna Bhavan.

Friends,
It has been quite some time now since my last post that I have had the occasion to share something on our page. So let’s start at the starting block. We are meeting on 13.11.2011. The venue is our familiar Yamuna Bhavan.

The year that has gone by has not quite been eventful. But the external world has had so many things to keep the members busy that the association couldn’t really churn up enough activities to adorn the site. But then lots of things happened in a quiet manner that have taken us a few steps forward. Steps that due to various reasons had become so weighty that we were better off by not taking any. However, due to efforts of some of our fellow alumni the weights are now off. And the net result is that our alma mater is ready to recognise its alumni. In the media perlance it could also be described as track II diplomacy.

Those who have followed and been with the process over the last few years know from their heart how difficult it has been to keep the association going. But the enormous emotional pull that our alma mater has for all of us provided the necessary traction to keep us moving. From 2006 to today, it has been a journey over a mere five years. but for those who have incubated and craddled the baby it has been a tiring journey. To say that it has only been tiring would be to put a wrong focus on the entire effort. It has also been rewarding beyond imagination. To create the bridge across generations has not been easy. But the network that has expanded has been hugely satisfying.

There are regrets though. And that’s natural. But the most important regret is the silence that we are witnessing on the pages of this site. More of this when we meet.

Folks,
Yesterday (07.03.10) we had our reunion at the Yamuna Bhavan. Lots of things happened. You must wait a little longer for a detailed report of the happenings. Meanwhile I am reproducing here what I said at the AGM as the secretary. The report was in Bengali. There are font conflicts which had to be overcome by innovative typing. The most disurbing in the lot has been the attempt to put a yaphala after ya. So I used ha in place of ya. I apologise. But my keyboard has been so configured that it works fine with my office system when I type in bengali but fails in other environment.

নমস্কার। মার্চ মাসের এই গরমের রবিবারে আমরা আবার একজোট হতে পেরেছি। প্রায় দেড় বছর বাদে। আজ এখানে যাঁরা উপস্থিত তাঁদের মধ্যে অনেকেরই এই অনুষ্ঠানে প্রথম। আবার অনেকেই আছেন যাঁদের উপস্থিতি প্রথম না হলেও, এই অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের একদম প্রথম দিকের যুদ্ধ সম্পর্কে অবহিত হন। তাই আজকের গৌরচন্দ্রিকা হওয়া উচিত আমাদের একজোট হওয়ার ইতিহাস দিয়েই।

স্কুলের ৫০ বছর
২০০৪ সালের ১ মে আমাদের প্রথম বৈঠক।
স্কুলের ৫০ বছর পূর্তি উপলক্ষে প্রার্থনা ঘরে আমরা প্রথম স্কুলের শিক্ষক এবং কর্তৃপক্ষের সঙ্গে মিলিত হই। উদ্দেশ্য, অর্ধশতক পূর্তিতে আমাদের যোগদান এবং স্কুলের জন্য কী কী করা যেতে পারে। কিন্তু কেন জানি না পরবর্তীকালে কর্তৃপক্ষ আমাদের সঙ্গে ঘনিষ্ঠ যোগাযোগে আসতে অথবা একসঙ্গে কাজ করার প্রস্তাবে দুরত্ব বজায় রাখতে শুরু করেন। তবে তথ্য ঘেঁটে দেখলে আমরা বলতে পারব না যে আমরা সম্পূর্ণ ব্রাত্য ছিলাম। সেই সময় সেক্রেটারি ছিলেন বিজয় ভট্টাচার্য। তিনি সবসময়ই আমাদের সাহায্য করেছেন। আজ তিনি আমাদের মাঝখানে নেই। কিন্তু আমরা তাঁর সহযোগিতার কথা অস্বীকার করতে পারব না। যেমন, তাঁরই উদ্যোগে দু’একবার আমরা স্কুলের নতুন বাড়িটা ব্যবহার করতে পেরেছি। যেমন, ২০০৫ সালের ৮ মে আমরা স্কুলের নতুন বাড়িতে কেরিয়ার ফেয়ার করি। কলকাতার একাধিক বড় সংস্থা তাতে যোগ দেয়। Industrial Museum তাদের ভ্রাম্যমাণ exhibition পাঠায়। অনুষ্ঠানটির উদ্বোধন করেন WBUT—ৱ vc অশোক ঠাকুর অনুষ্ঠানের উদ্বোধন করেন।
আজ যে আমরা একজোট হলাম তার শুরু কিন্তু ওই ১ মে। সেদিনই সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়, যে আমরা পুরো নিয়ম মেনে এই অ্যাসোসিয়েশনকে নথিভুক্ত করব। এই শুরুর সময় আমাদের নথিভুক্ত সদস্যের সংখ্যা ছিল ২০। ওই সময়ই আমরা সিদ্ধান্ত নেই যে আমাদের website করতে হবে। অন্যান্য নানান কাজের মধ্যে বিশ্বজুড়ে ছড়িয়ে থাকা স্কুলের প্রাক্তনদের একজোট করার মঞ্চ হিসাবে। সেপ্টেম্বর ২০০৪ সালে আমরা সরকারের নথিতে রেজিস্ট্রার্ড সোসাইটি হিসাবে নথিভুক্ত হই। ২০ জনকে দিয়ে যে যাত্রার শুরু ২০০৫ সালে তা ১২৫-এ দাঁড়ায়।
আমাদের প্রথম থেকেই উদ্দেশ্য ছিল, আমরা স্কুলের কাছ থেকে যা পেয়েছি তার জন্যই আমরা আজ আমাদের ব্যক্তিগত সাফল্যের বর্তমান অবস্থানে। আমাদের কাছে তাই স্কুলের এবং শিক্ষকদের আলাদা জায়গা আছে। সেই কৃতজ্ঞতা শুধু মুখে প্রকাশ করলেই হবে না, কাজেও তার প্রকাশ ঘটাতে হবে।
এক তো শিক্ষকদের পাশে দাঁড়ান। তহবিলের অভাবে এই কাজটা আমরা সেইভাবে করে উঠতে পারিনি। কিন্তু সুবীরবাবুর অসুস্থতার সময়ে সুরোজিতদা এবং ইন্দ্রনীলের উদ্যোগে আমরা যতটা পারি করেছি। কিন্তু তা যথেষ্ট হয়ে উঠতে পারেনি। সেটা আমাদের অক্ষমতা।
দুই, স্কুলের ভগ্নদশায় আমাদের সাহায্য। এই কাজটাও প্রথম থেকেই নির্দিষ্ট। কিন্তু নানান কারনে – যার অন্যতম হল কর্তৃপক্ষের মনোভাব। কিন্তু তা কাটানোর একটা আপ্রান চেষ্টা আমরা গত ছয় বছর ধরে চালিয়ে যাচ্ছি। কিছু ফলও হয়েছে। কিন্তু তা আজকের কথা।

আজ
আজ আমাদের সদস্যসংখ্যা ৩০০ ছাড়িয়ে গিয়েছে। গত বছর আমরা মিলিত হতে পারিনি। তার জন্য পুরো দায় সেক্রেটারি হিসাবে আমার। কিন্তু যা হয়। এক মন্দার কারণে কোনও প্রতিষ্ঠানের কাছে হাত পাততে পারিনি। দুই, এক অদ্ভুত যোগাযোগে, বাংলায় বোধহয় একেই কাকতালীয় বলে, পারিবারিক এবং ব্যক্তিগত নানান বিপর্যয় আমাদের হাত-পা বেঁধে দিয়েছিল। তাই দেড়বছর বাদে আজ আমাদের এই মিলন মেলা।
গৌরচন্দ্রিকায় এই অ্যাসোসিয়েশন গড়ার কারণ আমি বলেছি। একটা ধারণাও দিয়েছি বিভিন্ন প্রচেষ্টায় কী ভাবে প্রতিহত হয়েছি আমরা। তবে আমরা আশা ছাড়িনি। আশার কথা স্কুলের প্রাথমিক বিভাগ আমাদের ব্রাত্য করে দেয়নি। তাই আমরা ঠিক করেছি, স্কুলের কাছ থেকে আমরা যা পেয়েছি তার প্রতিদানের দায় মেটানো শুরু করব প্রাথমিক বিভাগ থেকেই। তবে গোটা প্রতিষ্ঠানকে কিছু ফেরাতে অক্ষম হলেও, জোট বেঁধে গুরুদক্ষিণা দেওয়ার কাজ আমরা শুরু করে দিয়েছি। ২০০৮ সালে এই কাজ আমরা শুরু করি রমাদি এবং কৃষ্ণপদ চক্রবর্তীকে সম্বর্ধিত করে। কেষ্টবাবু আজ আমাদের মধ্যে নেই, কিন্তু তাঁর হাতে তৈরি আমরা ছাত্ররা রয়েছি। শিক্ষকদের কাছে থেকে অনেক কিছু পেয়েছি। আমরা গর্বিত নরেন্দ্রনাথের ছাত্র হিসাবে নিজেদের পরিচয় দিতে পেরে। যে শিক্ষা তাঁরা আমাদের দিয়েছেন তার প্রয়োগে আমরা যেন ব্যর্থ না-হই সেই আশীর্বাদটুকু ছাড়া আজ আমাদের আর কিই বা চাওয়ার থাকতে পারে?
গত বছর পুনর্মিলন অনুষ্ঠান না হলেও সংগঠন তার কাজ চালিয়ে গিয়েছে। আমাদের অর্থবল সীমিত। তার থেকেই আমরা কুড়ি হাজার টাকা আইলায় ক্ষতিগ্রস্তদের জন্য ভারত সেবাশ্রমের হাতে তুলে দিয়েছে। আমাদের এই সংগঠন শুধু চাঁদার টাকায় চলতে পারে না। কারণ চাঁদার টাকা খুব নিয়মিত আসে না। তার অবশ্য অন্যতম কারণ আমাদের নির্দিষ্ট অফিসের অভাব। এবার সেই সমস্যা মিটেছে। গোপেশ্বর মন্ডলের বদান্যতায় সত্‌চাষী পাড়ায় মাদার ডেয়ারি বুথের পাশে তাঁর একটি ঘর আমাদের কাজের জন্য পেয়েছি। এতদিন আমরা বিনয়ের বাড়িতে অত্যাচার করতাম। কিন্তু এই ঘরটি পাওয়ায় প্রতি রবিবার আমাদের একটা বসার জায়গা হল। আপনারাও ওখানে চাঁদা জমা দিয়ে আসতে পারবেন। এবং অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের সঙ্গে প্রত্যক্ষ যোগাযোগে থাকতে পারবেন।
প্রসঙ্গে ফিরি। গোটা বছরের যাবতীয় খরচের জন্য আমাদের নির্ভর করতে হয় বিজ্ঞাপনের উপর। কিন্তু গত বছর মন্দার কারণে আমরা কিছুই তুলতে পারিনি। আর একটা সমস্যা রয়েই গিয়েছে। আর তা হল বিজ্ঞাপনের টাকা তোলার দায় শেষ পর্যন্ত মাত্র দু’ তিনজনকেই বহন করতে হয়। এটা ঠিকই যে সবার পক্ষে বিজ্ঞাপন আনা সম্ভব নয়। কিন্তু অনেকের পক্ষে সেটা অসম্ভব তাও মানা কঠিন। অনেকে বলেছেন তাঁদের কাছে ফর্ম না থাকায় বিজ্ঞাপন আনতে পারেননি। আপনাদের জানাই অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের ওয়েব সাইটে আপনারা সব ফর্মই পাবেন। অ্যাড্রেসবারে গিয়ে bnnvalumni.org টাইপ করলেই পৌঁছে যাবেন আমাদের ভারচুয়াল ঘরে। ওখানেই রাখা আছে মেম্বারশিপ ফর্ম থেকে শুরু করে বাকি প্রয়োজনীয় সব কিছুই। আপনাদের সবার কাছে আমার অনুরোধ, এই অ্যাসোসিয়েশনকে ধরে রাখতে সবাই সাহাহ্যের হাত বাড়িয়ে দিন। গত বছর আমরা এক জায়গায় হতে পারিনি মূলত অর্থের অভাবেই।
তার মানে এই নয় যে এই বছর আমরা আর্থিকভাবে ঘুরে দাঁড়িয়েছি। এবার অবস্থা আরও খারাপ। আমার অনুরোধ আপনারা সবাই সাধ্যমতো এগিয়ে আসুন যাতে আমরা স্কুলের প্রাথমিক বিভাগের জন্য অন্তত কিছু করতে পারি। যেমন বিভিন্ন ক্লাসের আগ্রহী অথচ আর্থিকভাবে তুলনামূলকভাবে বিপন্ন ছাত্রদের পড়াশোনার খরচের কিছু দায় আমরা নিতে পারি। এই কাজটা ছোট করে হলেও আমরা শুরুও করে দিয়েছি। প্রাথমিকের এক ছাত্রকে তার আবেদনের ভিত্তিতে গোটা বছরের টিউশন ফি দিয়ে দিয়েছি আমরা। রবীন্দ্রভারতীতে পড়ার খরচ হিসাবে আমরা এক দরিদ্র ছাত্রীকে আমাদের টাকা থেকে যতটা পারি সাহাহ্য করেছি। শুধু তাই নয়, আমরা প্রাথমিক বিভাগ আয়োজিত বসে আঁকো প্রতিযোগিতায় প্রতিটি অংশগ্রহণকারীর হাতে রং তুলে দিয়েছি। স্কুলের টান বড় কঠিন। তাই প্রাথমিক বিভাগের স্পোর্টসেও দৌড়ে এসেছেন প্রাক্তনীরা। কাদের সঙ্গে তা নিয়ে অবশ্য কিছু বিতর্ক রয়েছে! কিন্তু স্কুলের মাঠের ধুলো আবার গায়ে লাগাতে পেরেই যে তাঁরা খুশি সে ব্যাপারে কোনও বিতর্ক নেই।
শেষ করার আগে একটা অনুরোধ। প্রতিটি ব্যাচ থেকে আমরা যদি একজনের নাম পাই, যিনি হবেন সেই ব্যাচের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগের মাধ্যম তাহলে কাজের অনেক সুবিধা হয়। এর মানে এই নয় যে সদস্যদের সঙ্গে সরাসরি যোগাযোগ রাখব না। কিন্তু বিশেষ যোগাযোগের মাধ্যম অনেক সময়ই একটা কাজকে আরও দক্ষভাবে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যেতে সাহাহ্য করে।
